Guṇas

Prakriti → Guṇas → Interaction → Action

Ego enters later and says:
“I am doing”

The Structural Meaning of Guṇas

The word Guṇa does not simply mean “quality” in a superficial sense. It refers to the fundamental operational tendencies through which [[प्रकृति|Prakriti]] functions.

All movement in life—mental, emotional, physical, relational—happens through the interplay of Guṇas.

They are not moral categories.
They are structural principles.

The three Guṇas are:

  1. Sattva — clarity, harmony, lightness, intelligence
  2. Rajas — movement, ambition, agitation, becoming
  3. Tamas — inertia, dullness, resistance, heaviness

Every thought, desire, confusion, decision, and reaction emerges through their interaction.

There is no separate personal doer behind them.

This is the meaning of Bhagavad Gita 3.28:

“Guṇā guṇeṣu vartanta”
The guṇas alone operate upon the guṇas.

Action belongs to nature.

Ego claims ownership afterward.
